Hi Mods,

This fall, our team has been actively building a new mobile mod queue interface. Today, we're thrilled to announce the gradual rollout of these updates to moderators on both iOS and Android over the next few weeks. Mods may start seeing the revamped mod queue as early as this week, but please be aware that the rollout will be gradual and may extend into the new year (we’re taking our time to ensure everything works as intended).

This upgraded experience brings the following changes:

Here are some of the improvements you’ll see in the new queue:

Over the past month, we’ve had a substantial group of mods partner with us to test this feature out, identify bugs, and provide recommendations for future enhancements. We couldn’t have gotten to where we are today without their assistance - thank you! Although we have addressed the identified bugs and incorporated numerous feedback points, our commitment to enhancing the queue continues post-launch. Here’s a glimpse of what lies ahead:

We’re excited to hear your feedback, so please drop any thoughts or questions in the comments below!

Native gestures and interactions: Swiftly approve content with a right swipe or remove it with a left swipe. Additionally, long-press on content to reveal a comprehensive menu of actions.

Not a fan (to say the least) of replacing buttons with gestures and hiding basic buttons in a sub menu.

Easier comment removal: Remove comments more quickly without providing a removal reason.

That's nice!

...but it would be really great if this was made into a selectable option and of course extended to posts as well. Let us choose if we wish to be shown the removal reasons prompt or not!

I would love it if the remove reasons window loads this quickly. On android reddit app there is always a several second delay for me and it takes much longer to select/save the reason then what is in the animation above.

Reddit is Fun had pretty great modqueue management. You should check it out. Would have saved a ton of dev time, and made your users very happy.

Can we have an optional add flair after removal just like Toolbox?

This helps us immensely at maintaining community transparency regarding why exactly the post was removed.

I have heard[1] that there was a sign-up for r/RedditMobileBeta, and that Android members have been invited. Is there any word on when iOS members will be invited?

Modern apps need to be designed with a lot of white space and pretty buttons. I get that. Mods are not your typical mobile user. We would *much* rather have an ugly spreadsheet of a UI if information density is high and actions are efficient.

I think you need to write a different set of design goals for the moderator only aspects of the app and redesign. Focus on efficiency and information density over appearance.

Swipe?

Too many chances of mistakes. I have already had that problem in modmail.

Remove comments without removal reason?

Is removal reasons that going completely away in the app? (Fyi, on the app, the videos in these posts are small with a big area of white space around them so I really can't see the screen.)

I rather like that popup asking about adding a reason. Makes me slow down, make sure as a mod I am selecting the right reason and helps me double check that I selected the right comments (in a big heated debate, that mistake has almost happened) and also makes me more consciously aware that my selecting a option I am following Reddits expectations of a mod.

Real-time updates: Building on the popularity of this feature on Reddit we’re excited to bring this to mobile soon.

I may have missed that but the only real-time thing on Reddit right now is your new unofficial beta design (re.reddit.com[1] or whatever)

Not sure if this is relevant or not, I think it's somewhat related to the queue system though. Would it be possible to include AutoModerator action reasons in a user's mod log, when it comes to posts they've deleted?

Very often, I'll see a user with a mod log full of actions the AutoMod took, and at least on mobile the action reasons aren't working. So for example if I made the AutoMod remove every comment saying the word "banana", and the user deletes that comment, the mod log doesn't show that their comment was removed because it said banana. It just shows removed.

I know that it's probably because they've deleted it and maybe that complicates things, but it would be nice if there were a way around this, for the mod log to "remember" what part of a post/comment triggered the AutoMod. Provided that we have action reasons and keywords set up so it tells us.

Dunno if I'm making sense at all, and if this is something that could be worked on. All I know is that it's really hard knowing what to do with users deleting everything that gets removed, because it removes all context clues and I have to *guess* what they did.

This might not be directly related to the modqueue, but it's definitely related to quality of life UI improvements and being able to make informed choices.

u/SolariaHues, *I will miss buttons too. I'm worried I'm going to accidentally remove something and have to try and find it again if I had chance to see what it was.*

All those 3rd party apps that went away from the api change had this feature--although they also had the option to turn it off. Not sure why reddit didn't provide an option. But they are probably adding something that other popular apps had.

I’d like it if the app would default to my last selected “sort by”. It keeps defaulting to popular post, which isn’t as helpful as new posts on small, low traffic subs.

The new queue is awful compared to the old one. So many more clicks to do things now, very cluttered, and not very pretty to look at. Wish we could choose which version we wanted to use :(

Hi! There's a bug that could result in missing certain items in the queue:

1. Open the queue to "Needs Review". It defaults to "Posts and Comments".

2. Switch to "Unmoderated". It switches to "Posts Only".

3. Switch back to "Needs Review". It remains on "Posts Only". I'd expect it to remember my last setting.

It's already tripped me up a bunch of times. I switch between the two queues constantly.

Hi, I'm really interested in the ability to sort reports by report reason. Is that on the horizon?

We have some report reasons that are much more important to be acted upon quickly and it would be great to be able to process them first before other content. Even if in the end they were only reported once.

Just found out about this after the update hit. This mod queue is terrible. Please go back to the way it was previously to this. I think we all liked the buttons vs the gesture. At least give us the option. Please change this. it's not better

I just got this update on iOS, and it’s shockingly bad. Did the designer not consider the ergonomics of constantly swiping back and forth up and down?

It’s much easier on your hands to press a button than swipe across the screen. Also you need to reach nearly the whole way across… I can’t reach the far!

I don't know if you are still monitoring this post - but these changes caused the automatic harassment filter to not be accessible when moderating on the IOS mobile app. So now when I see a post or comment that the modlog tells me that the harassment filter was triggered I have to wait until I can log into my laptop new.reddit to answer the Yes or No question. Just makes extra work for us - I liked when the Harassment Filter could be responded to on the mobile app - please bring that back.

It would make it easier to manage the mod queue if you stopped automatically blocking all comments with a link to a.co (the default Amazon url if you copy a link from mobile). This is automatically blocked by the spam filter and cannot be modified by moderators, I get about a dozen of these per day to approve by hand. I tried asking users not to post a.co links, I tried reporting the issue to Reddit and nothing happened on either front.

Just got this update. This is a shockingly bad user experience. Not only is it more difficult to make a decision, but the swipes aren’t even registering properly. I have to deliberately swipe across my entire screen as opposed to a natural swipe. Terrible update.

This is a terrible experience on iOS for a few reasons, some of which were pointed out by others. For one, I cannot immediately see the upvotes/downvotes of the post/comment in queue, and even expanding it doesn’t show it to me. I have to actually click on in to go to the actual post to see it. Additionally, the swiping feature is very clunky and sometimes takes a few times to actually do what you want it to do. Also, sometimes the thumbnails load an image, but when I go to the post it just has the Imgur link in it. The biggest issue I have is not immediately seeing the upvote/downvote ratio right there in the queue and being able to click on approve/remove right there without having to expand it first as I don’t want to use the swiping function as it’s not working well.
