Subreddit moderation and related matters

This FAQ is about matters such as adding/removing/recruiting moderators or what to do if you've removed yourself as a moderator, or a related topic. This FAQ has been set up based on previous answers by our helpers.

Accidentally Left as Mod, Add/Remove/Recruit Mods, Re-order Mods

If you were the only moderator and have accidentally removed yourself as moderator, you will need to request your subreddit in /r/RedditRequest. Make sure to read their rules[1] for the criteria for being able to request a subreddit. There is a delay in processing requests (approximately one month).

If you want to recruit moderators, **AND** your subreddit has BOTH 25 posts and 50 subscribers, please go to r/needamod. r/needamod is NOT[5] for growing your subreddit, it is against their rules[6]. *No one will care about a subreddit more than the founder and the users*. Look at the posts at the top[7] to see how to grow a subreddit and when to recruit moderators.

Re-ordering the moderators[8]: Mods added first are higher on the list and can remove those below them. Click on 1st link and see this[9] and this[10]. **UPDATE** : it is now possible to send a modmail on r/modsupport asking the admins to re-order the moderators listed BELOW you. Removing top mods, owners or founders. The mods lower on the mod list cannot remove the mods higher on the mod list. That requires Reddit Admin to do, if top mods are inactive Reddit-wide, or violated Reddit rules or Moddiquette. Follow the removal process[11] at r/RedditRequest (rules[12]). Admin can see if mods log in, even if they look inactive to others. *Sometimes it is just easier to start a new subreddit.*

Want to combine both reports and spam? Append `/about/modqueue/` to your subreddit. Mod more than one subreddit? Use `/r/mod/about/modqueue`.

"Shield with triangle icon" on apps: This enables Mod Mode when activated, allowing mod actions such as remove posts.
