How do I grow my subreddit? I have started a contest, looked at the major guides, but I'm still not sure how to grow my subreddit.

Thanks!

Before you even try what /u/YorjYefferson said[1], you *have* to fill-up the first page or two with top-quality content. I don't mean submit something every day, I'm saying submit some thing of best quality, whether it takes 3-4-5 days between posts.

The first page or two are *key*.

You want visitors to *instantly* see what kind of stuff is not only considered acceptable to your subscribers but what quality of stuff is upvoted.

So, slow down, build your sub great-post by great-post, something you can be proud of. And change your header art from the standard generic snoo. It's a multi-month long process.

Once that's all done, advertise it in /r/newreddits, etc.

Try to find related subreddits and reach out to the moderators there to see if they mind you making a self post on their sub. If you get the green light you could talk about your own sub in these posts and what your goals are. You probably shouldn't do it more than once or twice per subreddit, and definitely follow the rules of each sub (and heed the wishes of their mods). But a lot of times two different subreddits can both gain more exposure by cross-posting to one another, particularly if most of the visitors to one sub don't go to the second one much. Good luck.

Try mesaging the mods of a similar subreddit to see if they will put your link up on their sidebar. Most are happy to help out.
