You don't get to cut Dei programs and act like you care. Uninstalled the app immediately after this notification and got my groceries elsewhere. Boycott target!

Here's a little reminder: Corporations aren't people. They don't care. They never have. Their sole reason for existence is to take as much of your money as it can.

General note: If you do want to support local, Black-owned businesses without Target's hefty cut of the profits there are some good articles listing many of them[1] and even a web directory[2].

Why not view what they do instead of "omg they removed their DEI policies???!!!!" hysteria.

Anytime I go to target, I see people from all walks. They hire with diversity in mind. Always have. Don't get so hung up on official policies. I mean a business can have DEI policies posted and pretend all they want but then only hire a certain type of people which proves they really aren't for diversity.

Instead of boycotting businesses, look at what they do in your local area. Because if you know the owner is say MAGA, and you go "OMG!!!!" and boycott, you may make the employees, who may very well represent the group you care about, unemployed when the business close, or cut back on staffing. As they hire the locals to work there.

Just something to think about even if you want to boycott. Who does it really affect?

Corporate Target? Nah, they will just close that store that happens to be in an area where most of their employed is the group you say you stand for to protect.

I mean Target, I can't even believe Target rebuilt and reopened on Lake street after what people did to that store. I would have said buybye as a business owner. And now you want to boycott them? Use your brain and look who is actively helping the groups you care about.

I never thought I could boycott Target, but after the DE&I stunt I won’t go back. Costco membership has been great so far!

For me the big sticking point is Target traded on good will. They cultivated it. They differentiated themselves by committing to the values of diversity, equity and inclusion. This influenced some consumers decision making on where to spend their dollars so Target profited from it. I know corporations aren’t my friend yet I’m still a human subject to manipulation. And they’re here. Our hometown’s own. I’m not deluding myself that Kohl’s or Amazon or wherever is any better but Target can sit in the corner for a month or two and decide what to do about stepping in it bigly. Easy enough decision.

The sad fact is that they’ll continue to promote their purchases from minority owned businesses since corporations can get federal tax cuts for purchases made from those suppliers. At least until trump figures out they exist.

So the issue wasn’t the cutting of DEI programs. That part it sounds like you’re OK with?

But acknowledging/ celebrating Black History Month after cutting DEI is what’s driving the boycott?

I want someone to tell me why I am wrong. I am not a bot. I am just thinking about this stuff logically.

Isn't it possible that these DEI groups were formed to create good practices and policies that the company implements within each group and then the overall DEI group is disbanded?

It's seems so hypocritical to not let them continue to appreciate diversity in other ways besides a group of people at their company whose sole purpose is to do this stuff...

Yikes.. Do you know any black people?

They get hired and excel on their own merit without the need of DEI. Best boss i ever had was a black man, he taught me so much.. one of the best mentors i ever had.

He was there on merit not DEI

I was just thinking about this article when I saw this post:

Author Frederick Joseph asks consumers to stop buying his books at Target https://thegrio.com/2025/01/30/author-frederick-joseph-asks-consumers-to-stop-buying-his-books-at-target/

Black owned businesses in MSP you can shop at instead (not a comprehensive list):

Shocker to a lot of you that DEI programs at many business don’t actually do anything. It’s a lunch meeting a month and a few company wide emails a year. Thats about it.

You can abandon DEI as a policy and not change anything It's more fair that way, demanding race and sex quotas is more discriminatory than hiring who's qualified

I prefer Target to going to Walmart honestly lol. I think people need to stop hyper-analyzing this, it's getting a bit ridiculous. Has Target done anything overtly racist?
