My life is changing for the better and it's time for me to get rid of all the clutter and 'bags of things'. What's the best place to sell all my things? I hear FB marketplace is the best but there are lots of scammers and this is a first for me, I've never sold anything online before so I'm really nervous!

Don’t fall victim to the endowment effect. Be realistic about what you can actually sell and give away whatever isn’t trash.

Firstly, I'd be brutally honest with yourself about what's actually worth reselling and what's actually junk and should be thrown away. There also might be a in-between pile of donations.
FB marketplace can be good for higher ticket items. Just be sure to set boundaries in your posting: no delivery, no holds, no advance payment, price firm, Cash/Venmo only. And then don't tolerate any nonsense from buyers if they ignore your rules. Just block and move on.
Good luck.

Search Facebook for a Buy Nothing group in your area or check the website buynothingproject.org . Note some of the Facebook groups are not listed on the website.
I get much satisfaction knowing other people appreciate my “stuff” and I’ve declutterred a lot through my group.

I’ve had a much better experience using a local consignment store. You may not get top dollar for your items, but they do all the work and you won’t be subject to scammers and lowlifes.

I use eBay but it can take a long time for stuff to sell, so it's not a good way to clear out quickly. It's pretty safe though since you can can check people's ratings and you don't have to ship the item until after eBay has gotten the buyer's payment. If someone defaults eBay will step in to resolve issues for you. Also it's helpful too decide is something is even worth selling because you can search auctions that already ended for similar items and see what amount they sold for.

For fbmp, before you make any plans to meet just look at their profile. Facebook is really nice for that feature actually compared to other selling platforms. Meet in a public place if possible but ive never had issues having people to my house when the item is big. Making groupings of items and put in the description “willing to split bundle just send offer!” If it doesnt sell in some set amount of time if your choosing, post to buy nothing groups! Good luck

I have recently downsized and I am in the same boat. I have way too many items! I have started selling on eBay. It’s a bit of work to list items but I am making a little money.

I'd recommend facebook marketplace and consignment shops - but think about how much effort you're putting in for the money youre getting out of it. I donate about 98% of my things, and only sell few items that I know will sell and have value (computers and vintage purses, basically), and even then I list my items for less than average price because I want them to sell quickly. I value my time more than any potential monetary gain!

I just bought a really nice sofa originally 7k new i pd $1400. On fb marketplace. My son did the same thing a week later and also sold his old set I think there is junk on it but also really nice stuff .
I have not sold on it yet . But think I might try soon. My son sells on it all the time and hasn't had one bad experience.

I listed about 50 high value things on Ebay and sold about 6 of them and made about $1000. The rest are still listed, I drop the price and send offers to people who are watching them, but there aren't all that many buyers out there.
My suggestion is to put the work into selling the thing you are SURE that someone will buy such as the $500 brand new with tags item or the $200 pair of shoes that are too small and have been worn once. List them on EBay, Depop, Facebook Marketplace etc. Good luck! I found that listing things helped me let go of them - if noone wants to buy them after 6 months I can donate them - at least I tried to get a little bit of money back!

I've been posting items to Facebook marketplace the past few months, and it's been quite fruitful! Some advice: make sure you post your items at times that make sense(for example, posting at 7pm will get you more traffic than at 12am). In the title of the item, make sure you put descriptive keywords, for example I listed a grey hoodie, but I didn't simply write, "grey hoodie" in the title of the listing - I typed, "men's small athletic grey gray comfy cozy hoodie". The more descriptive/targeted the keywords are, the more exposure it'll get. I also always post a video showing the item. Venmo/Zelle may sound like they'd be convenient payment methods, BUT the purchaser can reverse those transactions after they receive their item(I actually had a friend who got scammed out of $250 that was for a Nintendo switch; the buyer cancelled the Venmo payment after they received the item.) I always explicitly state in my post at the end that I will only accept payment in cash, and local pick up in [insert name of region in local city here]. And for safety reasons, I always arrive early to the designated location for transactions and park where my car/license plate cannot be easily seen, and leave *after the buyer has left, so that they there's less chance of being followed home.

It takes time & effort but brand specific or age/sex/price specific BST groups are the way to go. I have sold quite a bit in a few women’s BST groups but have had zero success in others. Also just depends if what you have is trendy/etc.
