Gardening is simple enough. A hoe and a spade plus hard labor.

My earliest gardens (besides attempts as a kid) were done by removing the sod from the yard, chopping loose with a hoe, then seeding by hand (or transplant). Use tree branches for tomato cages. Weed by hand picking or chop with a hoe and don't water, though a can helps.

Could also use sheet mulch (like black plastic sheeting) to kill sod for months then chop up compost rich soil (from dead sod).

a pair of secateurs, a pair of loppers, shovel, hand tools, collineal hoe, rake covers most of my jobs.
