hi all! looking for any recommendations on viet lessons mainly for south viet and preferably face to face. my partner is viet and his grandpa and i have been spending a lot of time ( like 2 times a week for 3 years) just sitting together while my partner and partners aunty (grandpas daughter) go outside for a smoke or five. he knows some english and we both try hard to have convo and quite enjoy eachothers company so i would like to know some vietnamese as well. please dont come the comments and tell me how tonal viet is, figuring out the tones is worth it to be able to speak to someone i respect so highly.

Hey! Unsure about face-to-face lessons because iirc the Northern dialect is considered "the standard," but SVFF have good online resources on the Southern dialect on YouTube + they also do lessons online as well! :)

I've always been a bit sceptical about formal lessons, I was put off when my partner used to tell me that people in Vietnam don't actually speak like that. "Xin Chao" being a prime example..or "how are you"..the first things they "teach" you, yet I'm told no one says them! Argh! Good luck with it though !
