It seems that the number of vehicles passing trams at stops is increasing.

Also it feels a huge number of cyclists don't know the rule applies to them also.

Maybe it's time for a friendly reminder again.

Is it just me, or have newer trams lacked the little fold out stop signs? I feel like they made the rule really obvious.

All tramps should have cameras on them that turn on when they are stopped and the doors are open. If a car goes past during this period it should be the same punishment for running a red light.

It is not safe and it is putting people at risk.

When I stop for a tram, I always put my bike across the bike lane so it's more difficult to just speed past me.

Trams should hace cameras installed and fine the hell out of cars that pass when stopped. Surely a good revenue raiser at least. Would solve Victoria’s debt problems

Someone needs to start educating and fining the crap out of the Uber Eats drivers on those (big breath) **two-wheeled, motorised delivery vehicles that aren’t bicycles because they don’t require peddling so don’t get them confused with bicycles** …. Yeah, those people really need a huge kick up the ass, especially in the CBD and inner suburbs.

Unfortunately there are more fuck heads on the road. It would be nice if trams installed cameras at each door and put a screen at the top of the exit that displays the street behind you so you can see oncoming traffic.

I live for when the tram driver gets out and gives them what for. As they fucking should.

I arrived in Melbourne 5 days ago from overseas, and spent about 3 hours walking from east Brunswick to CBD and back. I observed and learned traffic rules. The day after I bought a bike and cycled to port Melbourne and back. To be honest cycling (and probably driving) is extremely confusing, like the turn right from the left side (WTF??) or traffic lights here and there. One of the very first thing I noticed was that cars had to stop when the tram stopped, so if people don't do it I believe they haven't spent enough time in Melbourne because that's literally the first thing you learn.

Cyclist and e scooter riders are shocking. Some good ones who stop with the tram and others just keep going.

Yeah, I'd been caught out a couple of times on Swanston Street, thinking no public access for cars and the like. Nearly taken out by cyclists.

I know someone who was very nearly killed when a cyclist hit them as they disembarked a tram. She just kept on riding like nothing happened

Inevitable, since they removed the stop signs in the newer trams.

It's like they want people to die.

If only there was cheap technology, like little cameras, that could record footage of cars driving past tram doors, send to a person to verify, then issue fines to vehicles…

And then those of us who DO stop, either get some wanker leaning on the horn behind us, or as I had the other day, a bloke lean out of his Hilux, and in full bogan, "Geddout da fukken wah cunt!"

When I’m in Melbourne I treat any tram that is not moving as though people could be getting out. It’s just such a no brainer I would have thought!

Wouldn't it make more logical sense to use electrified buses than trams nowadays? I mean getting on and off public transport in the middle of the road seems pretty nonsensical to me.

If we are all concerned about safety and livelihood of each other, then the ability to approach from the footpath as opposed to the road would fix this right? No need to have more laws and rules when people don't know basic road standards to begin with.

I also want to share a flip side where a woman went to cross the road in front of me as I had already passed the tram on toorak Rd. She yelled saying I had to stop with some hand gestures. I feel common sense goes both ways, but that's my two bobs.

Who are these people advocating for more cameras, we have enough of a big brother nanny state here. Change the roads.remove tram stops if necessary.
