The hotel I’m going to has a 10% service charge already included for our 7 night stay. The service charge is $2457.98. Should I tip more on top of that? I think that already is a lot of money. One of my friends recently stayed there and they left a note in the room saying that “gratuity is not compulsory in Maldives however it is highly appreciated” I am not sure how to feel about leaving extra money since they already charge almost $360 a day for a service charge. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Hi, it is not compulsory to tip the staffs. Service charge will be normally divided for all staffs. However, some guests will tip separately or additionally for those who are very much involved in making their stay exceptional or special (like butler or f&b host or hostess or villa attendant). Hope this helps.

Whatever you give to the staff whose service you like the most. Can even be one. Will make a huge difference. These are men and women living in small islands with no freedom whatsoever. If you aren't gonna tip. At least leave a very good review for the staff you like mentioning there exact name. Believe me a review with their name will even go far enough, I'd say it's even got the same worth as that of 20$

As others have said -
- no need to tip at all, but it will be greatly appreciated. If anyone has particularly impressed you, you could consider leaving them a few dollars.
- leave a good review, mentioning names, or tell individuals or outlets what a great job they're doing. Some staff only get to hear when things have gone wrong. You could mention any good service at management (cocktails) events too.
- $360/day for 400 staff is obviously <$1.
