I've heard of two hit and runs with folks in my network over the last month.

Been more than a few on the news since the new year started?

Is there an uptick? What is to blame?

Is insurance too much, dumb kids, booze, drugs, less than documented folks?

For the life of me I can't understand how somebody hearing about 2 instances of anything correlates to an uptick in said thing. Like really?

I think the popularity of ghost tags is driving it more than anything. Get a dash cam.

There are many unlicensed drivers on the road without insurance. Yes, large undocumented population on Long Island is definitely a factor. High insurance cost plus ghost tags is another problem. Get extra supplemental uninsured motorist coverage.

Can’t speak to all but my buddy got in one recently and they were undocumented and no insurance.

Also FYI he chased them down which cops said you should not do, you should stay at the scene where it happened and they will use cameras to find the person apparently.

I live in Elmont and my street is busy and over the past 4 years everyone on my block has had a hit and run of their parked car . I’m talking about at least 15 people I know of. Cops don’t really care. Hall the time they say the license plate caught on camera was stolen . It’s a constant problem. That many people driving around are scumbags. You would think at least one person would stop and leave a note. I haven’t heard of one note left for the parked cars.

Yup had it happen to me a little while ago, luckily dash cam got the plate number and I didn't have to pay anything, idk why they do it, cause I'm sure their insurance goes up an insane amount or they get dropped, that's if they have insurance I guess.

I had an LLC owner operator semi ruin my drivers door in red hook NY, police wouldn’t come, called his insurance company and they wouldn’t verify active coverage without first seeing a claim, and I got screwed over because he was not insured and gave me fake information. The 10 days passed and my door was never repaired. Scum.

Last Friday I watched an SUV without plates fly up my residential street at upwards of 50 mph as a school bus was stopped ahead letting elementary age kids off the bus.

The guy’s windows were open so I yelled “slow down.” I didn’t curse him out, didn’t give him the finger, I just didn’t want him to hit the many small children up the block. Dude looped back around to call me a bitch and try to intimidate me.

It’s wild that these people get away with driving without plates and endangering kids like this. I have no doubt that if he hit someone or something he would have just zoomed away.
