Good morning fellow Long Islanders.
As can be expected in any election cycle, we're noticing a drastic uptick in political posts and comments in recent weeks. I just want to take a moment and make sure all understand our rules and expectations.
While political comments and posts have their place, we ask that you please try to stop attributing every aspect of this sub to politics. We're going to be more liberal about bans for comments dragging politics where they don't belong. Comments like "Thanks Biden!" or "Welcome to Trump America" on posts that have nothing to do with politics will lead to a ban.
Even in posts centered around politics, we do not allow insulting comments or uncivil behavior. Debate the issues, don't insult the user. Any insulting or uncivil comments will result in a ban. Yes this applies to blanket "Blame the Libtards" or "Damn MAGAts ruining everything".
While we obviously have our own personal opinions, we don't take sides as mods in this sub and will ban without prejudice.

We're going to be more liberal...
That doesn't sound like neutrality to me!
Seriously though, totally fair for the subreddit. We get enough political talk everywhere else, we don't need it here.

That sounds fair and thank you for doing this. I do not want to go online and see a question about 'how is the school district in....' and see comments arguing about Trump/Harris.
However, I do ask that you keep it fair as the mods. I feel that last election cycle (and following the election), the mods of this sub had taken sides. Posts, that I felt were fair conversation pieces, though favoring one political party were removed, while content favoring the other were left up. comments arguing in favor of one political party were deleted by mods, and others for the other party were untouched.

What makes a man turn neutral? Lust for gold? Power? Or were you just born with a heart filled with neutrality?

Unrelated, is there *any* way to unsubscribe from all of these political ad mailers? They just go straight in the trash.

Mods, I’m glad I’m not in your shoes but as you said “ debate the issues” which I believe can be done. But I just ask for a warning first then go for the ban as people are passionate. Thanks

Wait, Reddit has bans? /s
I haven't bumped into anything remotely akin to a ban here on Reddit since I joined back in the days of yore. Maybe I've been too sedate. I've been salty in this very forum...
As a former auto enthusiasts' forum website moderator and admin for almost 20 years, I feel your pain. (still an admin, just not practicing). I couldn't deal with the politics 4 years ago on there, so I kinda wrapped it up and backed off.
Hat's off!

What is an "election cycle"? These grifters are endlessly running for office. We need some regulation limiting it to 60-90 days only prior to the election, we don't need this shit all year long. It isn't healthy for the country.

Just for clarification, is this announcement saying do not talk politics in this sub, or is it specifically about banning folks for incivility?

I seriously hope you stick to your word on this, since every political post, or any post that turns political on this sub is filled with comments like "Hitler MAGAts", followed by an emotional rant with no substance. Meanwhile, all the way at the bottom will be one or two conservative leaning posts on the topic which are substantive and filled with facts and reasoning, yet have dozens of downvotes.
If you honestly stick to these guidelines, every political post on this sub will literally be dead because 99% of the comments will be deleted, which probably isn't a bad thing to be honest. People need to just chill out.

I would like to see the moderators stick to their word, because when I share MY political opinions in a sound manor ~ i get viciously attacked and downvoted into oblivion and moderators did absolutely not a fucking thing.
Step up.

I would be happy w a complete removal of all political posts in this thread. Keep it clean. I want to say certain things even right now while typing this and that just shows how crazy politics are.
