Hello,

I am learning chinese since 1.1.2024, first with a language app other than duolingo, then with duolingo. Since September I am also learning it in a school-like class with others.

We have a new guy in our class, who comes from maleisia and has already mastered german (he came here to study) and now he is in our course and instantly he was on top.

After class I asked him how he learns and he said he watches TV a lot and likes C-drama series. He watches them one time without help and then a few more times to identify words and other stuff.

I would also like to do something like that, but I don't like drama!!!

Are there shows, series, films you could recommend that are:

Honestly if you're HSK1 level and want to practise listening from TV shows on youtube try this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eje1Xi_Iu0k&list=PLJqCvvdEL3dFt4m0JOD3Z1gkLXRVMHCbL

It's Pappa Pig, a kids cartoon, and even that will probably kick your ass for ages. But the whole playlist is episodes with subs etc, and it uses lots of the most basic vocab you'll need in order to even attempt adult material. Personally when starting out even pepper pig was too much for me. Alison Mandarin's HSK 1-2 stories were a better starting place: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zx8cE4oeyKU&list=PLnLOmX0PYAeQcZuJpfMgx6TVfTSpukXN8[1] (also has stories all the way up to HSK5 if you get that far).

If however you do want just jump straight to more advanced stuff, then the most recommended sitcom type show is "Home With Kids": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PC3DmhI-3tU&list=PLO1KXMn-Zv0ImMjoFJq-ReoQmbz8OPhsI

Good luck!

check out the website of my Chinese teacher: https://www.youtube.com/@oopsmandarin[1][2]

The stories are short and therefore ideal to study.

I also like very much: https://www.youtube.com/@annieluo1307[3][4]

The problem with TV series is they are always 30+min. This is too long for a beginner and frustrating. I did this mistake when I was at your level.
