Purchased this from an antique reseller recently and I’m wanting to know its history. I was told it was WW1 but am thinking is is probably more WW2 era. Only results on google is “Latvian patriotic ring worn by SS soldiers”.

Thought my fellow Redditers might know more. Thanks in advance!

Recently someone asked about modern Nazi rings (there was much more to it than this on both nazi and patriotic theme) the creator of those sold some that were like this and claimed they're "so-called legionarees rings, replicas of 1930s rings". Which is not say it is also a replica, but search brings up only replica stores and one historian forum where they recount that such replicas were mass produced allready in the 1990s, and nothing about actual WWII rings. This one actually has same design as flag in sholder patch of Latvian legion.

I have one like that. I wouldn't put much trust in that being genuine(if rings like that even existed)

This ring has the insignia of Latvian Legion of the German SS. Heinrich Himmler formed the Latvian SS-Volunteer Legion (Lettische SS-Freiwilligen-Legion) in January 1943. Calling it "volunteer", but forced to serve under threat of execution. Some idiots believe to this day that our fathers willingly went into servitude.

All occupants must die.

It is from latvian Waffen SS WW2 signet ring, worn by soldiers. Waffen SS is quite controversial topic in Latvia.

The look of ring is sure that is dated, not modern replica. But such rings were replicated even in 1990ies, so not sure is it really new or genuine.

For how much did you get it? This is a common ring type sold from small businesses. “Runu rotas” sells it for 60 euros.
