Welcome to our Wednesday thread. Every other week on Wednesday at 06:00 UTC, In this thread users can:

• Find or ask for language exchange partners. Also check out r/Language_Exchange!
• Ask questions about languages (including on speaking!)

Any thoughts on language learning on your own time while a student? (i.e., not taking classes at the college but teaching myself)

I finish classes for the day then do my assignments, and I don't feel that I have the required mental bandwidth remaining to study a language, though I want to learn. I feel like I need to *not* be studying all day and instead want to laze away.

How do you do your reading in foreign languages? I have a hard time differentiating between reading/understanding and reading/analyzing. Meaning, when I read a novel, I try to understand every word and all the grammar, which unfortunately also means, it takes me ages to read a page and I keep forgetting the story.

How do you handle books in foreign languages? Thank you.

How do you switch languages when talking, on puropse? For example I will be speaking spanish with someone, get a messsge from wifey. Reply. Realize she doesm't speak spanish write the message in english. But then mid conversation pause to think of the word I need and realize I am.writing in spanish again.

I don't think in one language and translate to another, I just form a picture or feelings in my head and give it a push and what comes out comes out.

You know how words for ideas exist in some languages but not others? Need words, in any language, along the lines of, "I don't especially like you or enjoy your company, but I do love and care for you."
