Firstly, apologies for writing this in English, my written German isn't so great!

Currently me and my wife are searching for a new apartment in Hamburg. We already live in Hamburg, but we are very very far out and are looking to move closer to the centre.

So far we have been searching for just over month and have run into the usual problems people describe for the rental market in Hamburg.

We use immoscout24 with meiterplus, but of 33 applications we have heard very little back and had 4 invitations for viewings.

Every single document in place, with a folder we take to any appointments (my wife is extremely good with that!)

I know its an extremely competitive market, especially in the areas we are looking at, but if anyone has any tips and tricks, that helped, in regards to what other platforms/avenues we can use for our search, tips for our covering letter, tips for the appointments etc, id be massively grateful!

I know it may be long process and can be/IS heavily dependant on luck, but id love to cover all bases.

Vielen dank!

We just moved in last month, found an apartment instantly. The trick is to be quick. Everything that is on immoscout for longer than a day is most of the time too late. Every apartment gets hundreds of requests. Often they delete the entry after a few hours since they got enough requests already. We really refreshed the page 100 times a day and we're always the first to reply. When we went to Hamburg we had 3 visits in one week and already got the first apartment.

It will always depend on your income, schufa, last Name and a little bit of luck. Just apply for apartments where you believe to have a realistic chance, everything else is just a waste of time. How much is your household income and what apartments (Price) are you applying to?
