It's probably one of those ideas that would need to be implemented well and easy and fun to use to take off. People who already use gemini now probably have no problem with self hosting or similar. And you'd also want people to be able to view DHT hosted web pages in the browser through a proxy server. And then it looks no different than any other blog hosting sites to a non technical user.
