Hey guys, I recently committed to FSU through their CARE program.
I think I read somewhere that they don’t recommend working as the program is very time consuming. Is there anyone who can back this up?
As the program suggests, my family is pretty poor lol and I have been working a job since I was 16 to help buy my own basic necessities. My parents and I are worried that I wouldn’t be able to pay for personal items over the summer without a job.
Is there absolutely no way I can have a job? Not even working for a day? I work at a grocery store for minimum wage so I’m used to low pay.
Any info will help! Thanks :)

While CARE has some requirements after summer you should still be able to work a job if need be. Keep in mind though you’ll have to manage your time wisely cause there is a lot to do. CARE still support you with scholarships and gateways to other scholarships after the summer semester as well!

During the summer, you definitely won’t be able to work, at least from my experience (I work in healthcare, and that was my job before I came to CARE). I thought I could, but found it unwise, but I did get a job that upcoming Fall. But Summer orientation is completely planned out for you, and sometimes things get moved around due to the weather, and you’re still required to attend the events. I found that I received enough aid to live comfortably.

For summer semester, there are events and mandatory activities planned for each week. If you were to have a job, you would miss these events possibly leading to your spot in the CARE program and grant being taken away. Hopefully this explains more than the general responses. My snapchat is thareal_livi33 if you have any more questions or concerns. I just came in last summer through CARE!

You should get a financial aid refund check for the summer that you can use to pay for any other essential stuff that CARE doesn’t cover. But yea you can’t have a job during that first summer because all of your time will be taken up

The CARE Summer bridge program has lots of requirements and events on top of classes you’ll have to take and it is very time consuming. Like the other responses said Care does a good job of making sure ur entire summer semester is taken care of and you’ll get a financial aid refund as well. Basic essentials or subscriptions can definitely be covered by that. I’d suggest you save as much as you can before you to get to college as you would want to explore the city, go out and do activities that weren’t planned out by care. I went into care summer bridge 2021 and I cannot stress it enough that this is my family!! You’ll have so much fun ❤️❤️ congrats btw !
