It feels like all the major social media platforms are going that way. Social media wants to profit off of people like every other business nowadays.

It's the enshittification[1] of the web. Reddit is just the latest iteration of the cycle. First, you maximize users/subscribers by being genuinely better than the competition. Once you've got everyone using your service, you then pivot and go to maximize profit instead.

They've been profiting more than most businesses. These platforms are the filthiest rich companies in the world.
Now they want to go **absolutely gangbusters** on the greed.

A lot of the internet has gone that way. On the one hand this has allowed a lot of things to be given to users for free (or rather, has made us pay in personal data rather than money) but on the other it has turned the internet into a giant parade of billboards and commercials with websites tracking your every move and click.

Charlie just put out a bombshell video of twitch being dead / digging its own grave. Meta was a dumpsterfire. Twitter can't remain solvent. YouTube is/ has been making many influencers mad. I sense a major revolution of platforms otw.

i wouldn't be too sad if we all just got off social media in general... Or something new and better will pop up, and we'll use that instead until it shittifies too.

We literally used to make Facebook events for any Friday night party, invite people via Facebook, and upload photos to an album on Facebook.
Today that would be considered insane.

I’m mean yeah that’s the goal. You expect companies to operate at a loss for your convenience?
