the phone is the Nokia 235. on the image you can see the model of the Panasonic radio and the brand of the wireless earphones too (though, why would they need to carry a big radio around when the Nokia has a built-in wireless FM radio)

To answer- Nokia has shit reception and no AM, where I live that means no news. I like listening to news on my commute :)
