So, I went to SBI today to update my KYC (because the app decided to play hard to get). Expecting the usual chaos, I braced myself for long queues and grumpy staff. But guess what? Hardly any crowd. Shocking, I know.

I asked the guard where to go, and she directed me to a counter where the Deputy General Manager himself was casually chatting with someone. Impressive. As I waited, I spotted a young guy with a "May I Help You?" badge. Jackpot.

I walked up to him and asked about the KYC process. He politely handed me a form. Didn’t have a pen, so I asked for one—another employee from a different desk passed it to me *without* rolling their eyes. At this point, I was questioning reality because my past experiences with government offices have been… less than friendly.

Anyway, back to the "May I Help You?" guy—super nice dude. Though, for some reason, he was wearing a watch on both wrists. Time traveler? Who knows.

I filled up the form, gave it to him, and then he asked if I used the YONO app. I said yes. He took my phone, tapped around a bit, and BOOM! KYC updated in seconds. I stood there feeling like a complete tech noob. Had to defend my honor, so I mumbled, *"I did try NetBanking, but it didn’t work..."*

And that’s it. A surprisingly smooth and pleasant experience at a government bank. Staff was helpful, polite, and efficient. Also, in case you’re wondering—lunch break is from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM. Plan accordingly.

SBI gets a lot of flak unfortunately. But any given day, I’ll put my trust in a government backed bank than in a thuggish bank like ICICI or HDFC.

In the past 2 years, I've always had a good, hassle free experience at sbi...

The private banks though suck big time because 8 out of 10 times the response i get there is "abhi server down hai"

Well, my brother works in SBI and his workload is quite high. The work is no longer just the usual BAU, it is now loans, insurance and MFs too. Off course, this might vary from branch to branch

I love how this bank has transformed itself. They are still ahead of private banks in many areas. We are all the same everywhere. We are always ahead in complaining & never appreciating the real work. But thank you for sharing. I am 32 and have held an account with the bank since I was 14. I always recommend SBI.

Also if you are wondering there is no official lunch timings. Staff are required to take lunch breaks in shifts. Not everyone can go for lunch at the same time. RBI has strict guidelines in this regard. There must be someone at the counters to assist customers throughout the banking hours.

It's not the bank, it's the people.

God forbid, if they took a personality test to hire people. "You mean, you in".

Went to bank for some foreclosure. Expected all SBI shenanigans and all those experiences we all heard about.

Took them 15 mins to foreclose loan, generate NOCs and stamp it out. Only information i gave them was loan number.

Such a fast process and was totally not what i expected.

Totally opposite of HDFC loan experience (took 3 visits in 4 days period)

I had some problem with YONO otherwise it could’ve take 10-15 minutes as well on app. Surprisingly a very useful netbanking app. This and PNB app.

Would avail SBI services again in future.

I have used internet banking of many banks but SBIs seems to be most refined of all. It seems they are really spending a lot on the Tech part. Yono cash is something for which I didn't need to use my atm card at atm machines for last 5 years (hence avoiding frauds by card cloning).

I've had 0 issues with sbi branches in Gurgaon Goa and Rajasthan. I gave my pan card number verbally and was given a welcome kit within a few minutes My online banking was activated in 2 hours. It's my default savings bank, all my investment sips are set on SBI. I'm a SBI fanboy really.
