These rules are fairly understandable but I am somewhat confused on one thing. Why is there a requirement of 500 karma?

it just makes sure
that anyone who posts here
has been on reddit long enough
to know how the site works,
where rules and guidelines can be found.
it has made our jobs a lot easier
since we set it in place.
