Has anybody noticed all of the spots on people's cars in Columbus that were not garaged last night? It's like it rained dirt straight down overnight. (I washed my car yesterday afternoon so it's not from the road.) What is it?

Yes! Check r/missouri they posted about our "dirty rain" likely a result of Texas' recent dust storm

I assumed it was the wind kicking up dust, especially with the south wind we got and the dust storms in west Texas.
But it might also be the precursor to the neon green film of pollen that is due any day now. Ugh

The NWS in St. Louis just posted this:
Wondering where those dusts spots on your vehicle came from during this morning’s showers? We did some analysis and it looks like the dust likely came all the way from New Mexico and Texas!

It's happened around this time every year I've lived here. Lots and lots of wind, pair that with rain or moisture in the air and tadah, dirty car.

Damn, I couldn’t imagine what happened. Thought it was just me. Ran through the car wash at 7:30 last night and all dirty this morning.

I thought it was pollen on my car, but it's definitely not.

But if it's dust then why does it look more like ash or white stuff also it feels kinda gross to wipe your finger across it and feel it between your finger and thumb. I'm no rocket scientist but really? White mud never seen that shit before and I used to work in all kinds of dust and dirt. Also had a smell when it was coming down. Sounds weird.
