My son is looking at a used vehicle at Ashland Auto. They seem to have an uncanny review rating for a used car dealership. He moved to CoMo 6 months ago, so he has limited info locally. I'd really appreciate hearing from some local people. Thank you!

I don’t know how they got a great review rating. Every experience I’ve had with them or anyone I know who has dealt with them has been pretty bad

I was interested in a car they had very recently.

I went to look and drove a different car and got some info about them, as they were closing and I was cooking dinner that night. The car I drove was in rough shape.

I went back a few days later. They said it was in the shop because they found a hole in the hood. Strange, there want a hole in any pictures. K, call me

They called a couple weeks later, I said I'd be there in a few days. I got there and it was in the shop getting a pump replaced. K, call me.

I called a week later, they said it was still in the shop.

I was no longer interested.

Bought two cars there in last 5 years for the kids. Paid a fair price for both and just typical older car issues. I do have one of the mechanics I use take a look. But I do that with any used car.

I'd recommend them.

They buy their cars at auctions just like every small dealer. It’s a crap shoot. Auctions don’t allow test driving so they are bidding on an unknown.

They sold me a car with a blown head gasket whose muffler fell off within a week.

Unfortunately that place, and como in general, is a bad place to buy a car relative to surrounding suburbs of Stl, or even the Camdenton area. You will get a car better deal on a car if you go out of town and buy from a private seller. Every como used car dealer I've scoped out for cars under $8k was selling thinly veiled garbage like Danny DeVito in Matilda. My fiancé's family found multiple nice Lexus and Honda SUVs in the $4000 range in Springfield, but car hunting in Como fetches a premium unless you get very lucky.

I had a very good experience with them, but that was years ago. I haven’t heard much positive in the last 5-6 years.

Absolutely do not buy from those scammers. My husband bought a car from there and the next day it stalled out in traffic. We took it over to them and they had their mechanic look at it and said oh yeah it needs such and such replaced. You could tell they knew about the issue and never disclosed it. Said the car was sold as is and they didn't have to do anything for us. Come to find out the part that needed replacing was under a recall and we had a Subaru dealer fix it free of charge. The salesman at Ashland are so slimy. When we put up a bad review on google, they literally threatened us over text to take it down.

I’ve worked at a local detail shop that cleaned their cars. Take your money elsewhere.

Just make sure to bring it to a shop to get it inspected. Never trust any dealership.

I bought a car there close to 8 years ago and it’s still running great. Haven’t had any issues, so I would recommend them. Take it to a mechanic on your test drive most will do an evaluation.

Bought a good car there in 2017, but that's all.

Without disclosing why I’d steer clear, I would steer clear.

My neighbor works for an auto parts store in Columbia and he hands down recommends Ashland Auto. He bought a car from them within the past year for his son and got a great deal on a fantastic car. He was recommending them to me for my sister to buy a used Crosstrek (she went with something else) and told me to tell them “you won’t hurt my feelings if you take less” as that’s the joke they always say to him about parts. Neighbor is a stand up guy himself so I would say the rating is accurate.

I have a friend that used to work for them as a mechanic and they were NOT impressed. They had worked there when it was Premier and stayed through the ownership change (which yes I realize is quite a few years old by now but still). That said- they advised anyone who was considering buying from them to take the car to a different shop you trust and let them look it over. Because they were not fixing anything they could “get away with” not fixing.

They did alright by me a few years ago on my daughters first car. Fixed a bad water pump free of charge within a week of purchase.

...5...5 years ago.
