I'm mildly confused about the amount of people concerned about this. Do people really post to their profile that often that this is significant? Having followers doesn't do *anything* otherwise.

I was getting follower notifications from users with terribly abusive usernames (racial slurs, Nazi language) with profile pictures of lynched black people and swastikas. I don't want to be followed by anyone for any reason and I especially don't want follows that are abusive.

People can create names that harrass their targets. A few of the trans communities i hang around had problems with follow bots with names like "youllneverbearealwoman." other names would be along the line of using shit anc wrong steriotypes like "haha trans women are predators" and "transwoman are ugly" insinuated by the names. A person couldn't post to a trans subreddit without being flooded with these abusivr follow bots, which really isnt that fun
