It looks like r/popular hasn't worked out the way they wanted it. It's literally the 1st thing they discuss when they launched r/popular.

an optional filter for NSFW
Hey it could be a default filter with an option to turn it off buried in the settings.
This should make advertisers satisfied without alienating the users.

It's clearly possible. Their reasoning is bullshit. They want to nanny our content for their own agendas.
