This change only affects outbound links posted to reddit, not things like wiki links, sponsored headlines, ads, etc

Irrelevant. If some Coke marketing shill[1] makes a brand new account, and works with your team to vote cheat their way to the front page, that mega-corp can now track exactly how many people clicked and were blasted with blatant, unmarked, advertising. That type of shit is worth millions, and is exactly the reason why this program was designed. Personally, I think reddit has a right to make money, but there's no reason to continually lie to the userbase like this.
