If he calls you Governor even just once... call Ford and tell him to flip the switch.

Refuse to meet with Trump until he drops the Governor line, and the 51st state rhetoric.

Make sure there is a clear meeting agenda:

Make it clear that there will be no discussion about the proposed national holiday that celebrates his passing.  We're trying to pin down dates.  Maybe Jan 6?

Some of you really need to give your balls a tug (Figuratively) and your head a shake. Negotiations are obviously going to continue at a lower level, but the PM should never directly engage with Trump while he's continuing to make these insane threats, as it gives him the power he so desperately craves (He's literally modeling his approach à la Putin).

Once big US businesses see the deadlock extend and their market share fall, they'll push for Trump to abandon them.

Carney's smart to say this, because the fallout of our PM getting Zelenskyy'd in the Oval Office would give the degenerates down south a loooooot of ammo to go on (As we saw with the fall in approval ratings).

Looks like he had Anita Anand with him - 2nd and 6th pictures. Carney recently convinced her to run for her seat again after she had indicated in February that she intended to return to law and academia.

I think Carney is on the right track - you only meet with Trump on certain terms or you do not meet at all. Trump only respects strong.

The problem facing any country that's had tariffs applied on Trump's orders is that you can't be sure that Trump will abide by any agreement that can be negotiated. On a whim, or a perceived slight, and he'll ignore any deal.

If tariffs remain in place, I don't believe it will be long before the US economy starts to collapse. I also think that, despite what the Trump says, Canada's economy is robust enough to weather this storm, especially with help from its true allies.

I really think Carney is the man for the moment. I know Conservatives are attacking his record as a banker, saying he’s an out-of-touch elitist during a cost-of-living crisis, etc., but wouldn’t the former head of the Bank of Canada be like hyper aware of the issues facing Canadians? Like, aside from Trump, the things a central banker has to focus on most intensely are bread-and-butter issues: inflation and employment. Almost no one else is as focused on keeping basic commodities affordable and ensuring people have jobs than the central bank. With that level of expertise in bread and butter issues and the backbone to stand up to Trump, I think Carney really has the chance to shine

Whatever, Trump flip-flops so much and can't be trusted. Best to negotiate with the knowledge that agreements are temporary.

I wouldn't walk into the Oval Office after that stunt with Zelensky.

Carney should set up a drive through at Rideau Hall so Trump can stay outside during talks.

Trump: "I'd like to order one 51st state and some adulation on the side."

Carney: "sorry we are all out of that, how about not crippling your economy supersized."

The American economy is held up by consumerism, so if you can spook them to curb spending things will snowball. The nation is deeply divided, government departments are becoming dysfunctional from staffing cuts and the tariffs are a double edge sword. Nebraska is already fk'd with their workforce bailing on them because of ICE. It is a top heavy economy ready to capsize and then the Americans will turn on each other.

I think an election is more important. Why waste time talking to Trump if there is a potential you'll be out the door in weeks/months. I understand it, but we need a set in place long-term Prime Minister with a set in stone government mandate. I don't care who the leader is, I just want a concrete government at this point. Get it done and over with and let's put our heads down and grow as a nation.

Right now, I think that all the smaller countries that have been victimized by the US over the years while we and all the other allies turned a blind eye, deserve to mock us by using the meme:

I don't mind the idea that meetings should only happen if 51st state rhetoric is put aside. It won't work but it's a fair try.

“Mr. Carney is a serious person, a serious man, and he’ll engage only if there are serious talks,” Joly said.

Probably not the best line to go with the picture above.
