View submission: Canadian pride surges amid Trump’s tariffs, sovereignty threats: poll - National

It's just anti Americanism (wrapped in a Canadian flag) from what I've seen. Which, I'm very anti American. I'm just saying, it's not the same thing as Canadian pride.

For sure, it's *mostly* just resentment (however justified at this point in time). One hopes it leads to deeper reflection (and that seems to be happening), but an identity based on what you are not is not a particularly strong one.

That would be one perspective. One might also say Trumps actions and threats have caused many Canadians to reexamine what differentiates us from our neighbors south, and have come to the conclusion that Canada is worth standing up for.

Ya, it's only reinforcing that Canada's national identity is "not being american" If this is what it takes to get Canadians to be patriotic.

I like the idea of a united canada, but building that on a foundation of hatred of the "other" is not a good thing.
