Thanks, thats what I anticipated reading the reviews.

This book series is, for me, books about teenagers for teenagers. I get why they are popular, but I left that phase behind me a long time ago.

That's exactly my problem with the most popular recommendations from the 'Best Books of the Year' lists - they cater to a reader with different taste, and why I want to be sure before reading 100-odd pages and realizing this is definitely not 4.2 star worthy that Goodreads says it is.

I fully agree with the lack of depth in the writing and in the world. The color thing is silly. If you want to just accept it like I did, the plot itself can get really fantastic. It just moves forward and forward faster than you expect.

But no, it's not a 4.2. It's a 3 for the first book and 3.5 for the other two.
