It really just comes down to this: If the vast majority of the users of the site think the amount of political involvement is a welcome addition to the experience of the site, then there's really no need to criticize ourselves over something we all all mostly agree on.
I'd be really surprised if a lot of users of reddit (by percentage) felt that reddit administration is a detriment to the site. I can only speak for myself with certainty, and I personally think these posts bring about good discussion and are welcome, but my sense is that people are mostly in agreement with that same sentiment.
