One thing I've learned working at a startup is that it's surprisingly difficult to know the answer to that question. How do you count contractors, new employees who have signed an offer letter and have a start date but haven't yet started, part-time employees, interns, etc.
Every week at our all-hands meeting we get the *estimate* of how many employees we have this week.
