View submission: Twilight

Listening to Griffin say "But Twilight wasn't like a mainstream thing until the movie came out" and realizing "Oh shit, I'm only a few years younger than him but he **was not in high-school** when Twilight came out, because **every fucking person I knew** had read that book"

I had the same reaction! I was like “Griffin, you’re crazy” and then realized... no, I was just 13 and everyone I knew was also 13.

I worked in a bookstore when the books came out and it was a PHENOMENON.

Yep I’m just three years younger than him I think, and it was wild realizing what a huge difference that made for exposure to Twilight. That shit was everywhere in high school circa 2007, both people loving it and people shitting on it. Crazy but understandable to think it had penetrated the monoculture at that point!

Yes! I had a visceral memory come back to me when he said that of like half of the desks of my seventh grade home room class with that first book on them.
