So, how did the calculation for the listed crimes here change to justify such lower numbers in 2024 ?

CAVE(s):

Slagen en verwondingen: this does not mean what you think. This is not an umbrella term that includes theft with violence, it is a different (but broad) category of violent crime, just like homicide(which is also a specific form of violent crime). So they dont overlap with the robbery numbers. Unfortunately this includes both deliberate and accidental violence. So if you slap your arms around in a cafe and accidentally knock someone out, or accidentally slam your car into a pedestrian, this can also be filed under this category. They do not show accidental and deliberate cases separately in the statistics. Source: https://www.politieantwerpen.be/e-loket/slagen-en-verwondingen[3][4]

Numbers: these are not the rates per 100 000(those are not calculated in the police reports), but the total numbers. This means that they do not take into account the 14% increase in population during the timeframe of these statistics(2000-2024, 5% for 2014-2023).

2024 stump: for 2024 they only have the data for the first quarter of the year. The yellow line represents the Q1 numbers of every year.

A while ago I showed a steady decrease in homicide rate in Belgium as a whole, and its "gewesten" as well. Now, this idea of crime rates is rather politicized on this sub, and of course VB twats such as those on B2 are quick to smugly point out that this does not cover other violent crimes(beatings, muggings etc.). So here is what I could find.

Willingness to report: most of the actual crime statistics such as these are hand-waived away by certain aforementioned demographics due to the decline in "aangiftebereidheid". For this claim they unfortunately rely completely on anecdotes. They dont have any research showing this.

But it is something to keep in mind, so researchers like to use homicide rate for this as a proxy, because these rates are not susceptible to aangiftebereidheid like robbery and such are. They can be found here: https://www.reddit.com/r/belgium/comments/1gh7v3f/homicide%5C_rate%5C_trends%5C_last%5C_decade%5C_in%5C_belgiumand/[5][6] and https://www.reddit.com/r/belgium/comments/1gmn17l/homicide%5C_rate%5C_trends%5C_brussels%5C_and%5C_wallonialast/[7][8]  tldr: a clear decrease over time.
