This has been around in Poland for several years already. You get all your official documents (ID, driver's license etc) in one app called mObywatel (mCitizen). Works really well.

I am actually really happy about this.
Fun fact: this has been possible for like 5 years in the US with Apple wallet and Google wallet. They both support digital ID and driver licences in multiple US states and every government agency like TSA recognises them.

Comes in handy if you lose your ID. Once I lost it and went on a holiday 2 days after that. Luckily I had my international pasport to pass the Croatian border. My parents lost their belongings at the airport in Iceland and couldn’t even check in the hotel without it. If you don’t have it physically at least you always have an ID. And privacy? Funny people are complaining as everything else is already digitalised. Nothing changes there.

The tech already exists, the app has been ready for a year now. This should also have been done and functional by the end of 2024, but of course our government can never do anything on time.
It's ridiculous that it's taking the government this long to develop something so simple.

How many apps? Guess the shops, government & everyone might as well hand over free smartphones. Why can't there be less & more secure apps?
