View submission: Religion teacher trying to understand the Baha'i Faith.
We believe the Bible is a record of some of the sayings of Christ and Moses, and of their lives and circumstances recounted from witnesses and hearsay. So for you to understand what Christ meant when He said that He was the Son of God, you are having recourse to a second hand set of ideas put together by someone trying to recount something of the impression which Christs' words had on him, just like you would if you had met Him and had nothing written directly from Him. Yet, such was the personal transformative process effected by its spirit that it ultimately conquered the hearts of all Roman citizens, who were previously its bitter enemies. This is the greatest proof of its truth, and shows that it is in fundamental agreement with the teachings of Buddha. Baha'is believe that such a profound and far reaching transformation, of such historic import for the life of humanity, can only be due to the influence of the Holy Spirit. This is why Buddha and Christ are referred to as Manifestations of God. Abdu'l-Baha has further elaborated on the nature of the spirit in Some Answered Questions[1], saying that because it is an intellectual, not material, reality, in one sense you could say that it is unknowable, but in another, knowable by virtue of it being cast in a sensible form.
