None of your missionaries are really interested in dialogue, that is not the reason they are out and about. They are there to teach and convert nothing else. While the occasional missonary may have an interest in learning, that is not his or her job.

And it wasn't that they weren't interested that bothered me and my friends it was they were dismissive of our beliefs. It was quite obvious from their words and manner that they had no respect for our beliefs and also quite clear that they felt what they had to say and teach should be seen as so obviously superieor that a child could see it.

Your experiences with missionaries is unfortunate in my opinion. Some of the missionaries I've spent time studying with have been very open to dialogue, and a couple have been very similar to your experience. I simply had to remind myself that each individual was different and that their approach, demeanor, and personality would be equally different.

I met with a couple missionaries a few months ago, and as we talked, I told them that I wanted to break down their missionary lessons and teach it to them from my perspective, to see if I understood the lessons and concepts correctly (as I study World History and Religion as an undergrad). They not only allowed me, but actually took notes and I had a wonderful time teaching and sharing with them.

I wholeheartedly hope that you get an opportunity to meet missionaries that are more considerate of you faith and beliefs in the future. Cheers!
