I’m a first time golfer so most of my time will be spent at the driving range. But I’d still like to know the best courses near Auburn .

Find a friend who's a member at Saugahatchee CC. Best kept secret. Wide fairways, decent sized greens. Just upgraded the driving range..

RTJ grand national is the best deal for course quality and price on range balls assuming you’ve got a trail card or student discount. That said, all 3 courses there are pretty dang hard and not particularly cheap. If you’re not opposed to a bit of a drive, there are a few courses in Montgomery that get real cheap (gateway park $12 to walk 9, $20 for 18). Alternatively, just keep an eye on golfnow deals and play wherever has something cheap available that day. You’re new and shitty courses are fun in their own way.

Everyone is telling you RTJ Grand National, which is undoubtedly the best course in the area. It’s up there for the best golf course in the state, and Alabama is a hell of a golf state.
But you’re a beginner. It’s not what you need. You need Pines Crossing. Learn to play at Pines Crossing then when you’re respectable, go play RTJ. I’d also recommend The Greens at Auburn.
