View submission: If you are in a vegetative state are you able to hear or able to understand given some parts of brain works?

Check out the work of Adrian Owen. He showed using brain scanning technology like fMRI and EEG that patients that were thought to be in a persistent vegetative state were aware and could respond to questions. I believe he estimated 5-10% of such patients might be responsive although don't quote me on that.
