I think that's a pretty common attitude, especially when people are first exposed to the is-ought problem. It's definitely interesting and worthwhile thinking about, but I think it's a little overblown. This article[1] by Peter Singer is actually a pretty good take on it.

Thank you. I'm a fan of Singer, albeit I do not personally agree with his ethics.
