Awesome, I enjoy Hanoch's work. Hanoch and Peter Hacker share very similar views. Hacker's chapter on belief in his Intellectual Powers might interest you, as well as his preliminary chapter on intentionality. All of this misunderstanding surrounding belief, desire, etc. turns on our misunderstanding of the 'what' in 'what do you know/believe/desire'. I know you're looking for arguments as to why propositional attitudes have been the default position, Hacker addresses that question but it may not be as extensive an answer as you'd like.
