The cleanup is finally progressing along Swannanoa River Road. I used to enjoy walking in this area and one of the landmarks was the hippo at the (now defunct?) River Mill Lofts. Has anyone seen the hippo or know where it ended up? There were some videos of it posted floating away with great comments where some people thought it was real… but never heard if there was a final landing site.

Taken the day after the storm. I was standing in the Haywood bridge watching debris flow down the French broad. A wild Appalachian hippo, being swept away and all I could do was watch helplessly. I hope the hippo is found and doing well.

We live by there and one of the few things to make us laugh in the immediate aftermath of the storm was imagining that hippo slowly floating down the river, confusing the absolute shit out of anyone who saw it.
