View submission: What are the reasons millions of undocumented immigrants were allowed in the US? I don't recall ever hearing the most obvious reasons by politicians.

It would be so easy to fix this: Make it illegal to **employ** illegal immigrants. Nobody that comes here would get a job, because everyone would be too afraid to pay them. Guess who's not coming anymore?

But that would have a devastating effect on tons of things, like food prices.

Uhm, it's already been illegal to knowingly hire undocumented workers. Has been since Reagan.

Title 8 U.S.C §1324 a(a)(1)(A) makes it unlawful for any person or entity to hire, recruit, or refer for a fee, for employment in the United States an undocumented worker.
Subsection 1324a(2) makes it unlawful for any person or entity, after hiring an undocumented worker for employment, to continue to employ that worker knowing the worker is/or has become unauthorized with respect to such employment

You’re going to find yourself arresting and prosecuting a lot of minority entrepreneurs who run restaurants, cleaning companies, and temporary worker agencies. After all that, the people will all still be here, living worse and getting benefits from the taxpayers.
