View submission: What are the reasons millions of undocumented immigrants were allowed in the US? I don't recall ever hearing the most obvious reasons by politicians.

It wouldn’t have stopped them regardless. Listen, I’m Venezuelan, probably one of the most hated immigrant groups in vogue right now, and I came here over a decade ago fleeing oppression seeking liberty. I had $200 and a bag of clothes, and a huge desire to be finally free.

I saw every liberty I had disappear under the grip of an autocrat who made illegal to exist. Maduro caused one of the biggest famines in Venezuela history to control the population where over 7 million Venezuelans poured throughout the Americas. That is hardly “poverty” by choice or lack of economic opportunity.

Today I am an American citizen and I took my oath of allegiance seriously. We should help all of those who yearn to be free.

This doesn’t mean open borders, to me it means orderly migration. Who are they, why are they leaving, have they been convicted for non political crimes elsewhere? What skills they have? Where can we send them to set them up for success? eg if they are in construction, electricians, etc sending them to locations with those jobs open. You make this temporary (2yrs) to assess their character, this can become permanent later (green card) leading to citizenship after.

Right now? They don’t tell you either but the Immigration Naturalization Act which is the current max law regarding everything that has to do with immigration hasn’t been updated by Congress since 1991. 1991! It predates the Gulf War (the first one!), it predates 9/11, it predates the Internet economy and more. It was drafted for an America economy that does not exist in 2025.

Guess who can change it? Congress. The President can’t do shit but issue executive orders to try to address how old it fucking is, EOs that the parties use to CONTROL YOU. They split the issue and claim their fantastical narratives (close the border!!!111) to get you to vote for them. So blame Congress.
