I'm sure some people will try to say it's a lot of talk and reddit wouldn't lose much of a userbase, however the same was said about that digg (as much as the comparison is worn out it still holds true of what can happen).

I’m not sure the old.reddit userbase is as big as you think. The site exploded in users sometime after new reddit was introduced and made default, and most of those have only ever experienced the site through the official app. It feels like most people nowadays call reddit an app instead of a site, but I guess that’s just what web 3.0 is shaping up to be
