Don't assume it will be that way forever, even if nothing about the way r/popular ranks things is changed. This is a massive political news day due to all the stuff about Flynn and the Russia scandal coming out. When something as truly massive like this happens in the world of politics, don't be surprised when there are a lot of r/politics posts. Similarly, if the entire state of Florida just fell into the ocean, you shouldn't be surprised if r/news suddenly dominates.
