Text-posts make up over 65% of submissions to Reddit and some of our best subreddits only accept text-posts. Because of this Reddit has become known for thought-provoking, witty, and in-depth text-posts, and their success has played a large role in the popularity Reddit currently enjoys.

Because people don't use them to get karma

Right? I have to imagine that the type of people that really wanted this change are just hungry for more karma. Seems silly to cater to those type of people now.

Yeah, I don't get this. It's even in the Bible. People who care about the means rather than the end - the people who care about the post itself and not the karma - make for a good community and a good site. People who care about money, power, karma, or anything else like that don't care how they get it and will do anything (read: shitpost) to get it
