Yeah it's very much a case of "Here, we did this for you! Aren't you happy :D"
"No one asked for this. This is stupid what the fuck?"
"Oh look our userbase is just resistant to change we added something cool for you guys that you wanted stop complaining. We know what's best for you!"

This isn't a solution to a non-existent problem, this is rolling back the solution to a previously existent problem. Anyone with half a brain can tell you the problem will come back and this will be a terrible move for Reddit.

a solution seeking out a nonexistent problem.
The reddit admin motto.

There is no more real work to be done on reddit, like creating mod tools, so they can work on this.

The only problem it solves is making sure that all types of posts can now be viable karma/ad revenue/page view farms.
This move really only benefits the owners of the site itself. Judging by this thread alone the majority of responses are ripping on this change as its going to break a number of subs. Admins don't care if shit content made from text posts gets to the top, they are only concerned that more posts get to the top with more views.

It's almost like if they really believed that banning karma for self-posts improved the content of the website, then they should just get rid of karma altogether.
We ain't fucking stupid.
And I don't have the numbers, but I'm willing to believe the majority of reddit users don't give a flying fuck about karma.
Which poses the question... what's the fucking point? Why generate karma at all?

You wouldn't want them to fix any of the real problems would you?

I'm sorry, but this was a solution seeking out a nonexistent problem.
Sounds like the CS:GO development team has overtaken reddit lmao.
