Don't know in the US but in Britain there are millions living on welfare benefits, they manage somehow, simple lives with few luxuries.

How do they reduce compassion for the less well-off?

The Media manages to find the odd ones that have 98" TV sets, games consoles for the multi-cultural kids (no husbands are ever in evidence) and a fridge full of beer and junk food, never mind chain smoking...Lots of TV programmes are made based on those lives, examples:

Benefits Britain

On the Yorkshire Dole

Benefits Britain Breadline Scousers

Benefits Street

On benefits and proud !

Life on the dole

Can’t Pay? We’ll Take It Away,

Rich House, Poor House,

The Nightmare Neighbour Next Door

The Mega Council Estate Next Door.

It's easy: Government simply contact their chums in the media and, over a few glasses of fine wine and fine food in a trendy Chelsea restaurant they decide on a new campaign of TV Psy-Ops designed to create hate and outrage at the alleged abuses of the Benefits system and proceed to cut down the benefit payments with full God-fearing, tax-paying voter approval.

These Psy-Ops take the form of TV series depicting the very worst sort of scroungers that are living it up on the dole and benefits. The cameras subtly and carefully focus on their cigarettes, their massive 4K TV's nailed to the wall, their fridges full of beer and expensive energy drinks, the empty pizza and KFC boxes on the floor, their kids branded clothes and PS5's, the fancy piercings and tatoos and decorated nails, etc.

At the end of such programs the holier-than-thou viewer is apoplectic with rage and will welcome any tightening down and capping of these abuses without question.

I'm sorry to go on, but I fell for that years ago when the local news reported the abuses of dole scroungers. They showed a chap licking his fingers and counting a wad of cash that he had just withdrawn. I screamed outrage, when my mate intervened: What makes you think that image was of his dole money and not simply an image of some innocent saver withdrawing HIS money?

The Bible says without love we are nothing.

I agree with this to a great extent. I am a highly compassionate person and try to help as many people as I can. With that being said, sometimes it's hard to differentiate between people who sincerely need help and those who are just taking advantage.

Just look at social media which IS our society now. What gets more attention, upvotes, thumbs up? Compassion or its opposite (hate, judgement, humiliation). It's who we are now and it's rewarded. So is this just a phase or is it who we will always be going forward?
