Ah, I didn't think to explain this. Sorry about that.

Since Chang-li is Chinese I'll explain the cultural significance for China. This type of styling dates back to the Shang dynasty, and is most associated with its roots in Hanfu. These are hair ornaments. Because court ladies and noble women / women of royal standing had different ways of dress, they did alot to their hair, and I'm sure you're probably aware of that.

One of them being this. Those big, intricate and expressive hair styles were not achieved without hair extensions. Some were just braids or banded loops, which were then tucked into the overall updo. However, some, especially younger ladies, just used jewelry to attach to their own hair, and add more hair to freely flow, like Chang-li.

Because Google is a bit of a cesspool at the moment searching non-english titles is a bit hard, and I don't exactly remember how to write this in Chinese. However translating it, you would just call them hair rings or ornamental hair extension bands. Some act as jewelry and some don't.

You'll see cheaper versions of this go viral on Weibo, and it's popped off recently in Japan as well, just the metal band and then the hair following it, though you'll usually find the ponytail versions online.

The first time I saw something like this was in this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eEdkQHTn2KI[1] (Japanese Singer Reol performing for "The first Take")

You can see it best around 1:22 and 3:38 I think

I think it's way cooler than 'regular' extensions :D

I'd definitely try it out if I was a girl
