Exactly. I think most religious people don't want it shoved down other people's throats either.

I think it's just like anything. I use veganism as an example.
Most vegans really don't care whether you eat meat or not because it's something they do for themselves for whatever reason. Health, ethics, etc...
Most religious people just live their lives according to their beliefs and don't make a big deal out of it. You probably would be surprised at some of the religious or spiritual people in your lives because it's a personal thing and they don't need to proselytize at you.
But the loud annoying ones are the ones we often think of the most.
The biggest difference being that some major organized religions are doing serious harm knowingly and affect governments and directly harm and cause the deaths of actual human beings. And THAT'S a huge issue. Maybe it should actually be THE issue.

As a gay man, it irritates me a bit that a pride parade or having gay representation in TV or books is "shoving it down peoples' throats" but teaching a belief system and using it to oppress and control, whether it be between people, in schools, or in the fucking government. People cite the church so much in political decisions and personal morals/beliefs, and push those beliefs onto you. But the second someone lets it be known they like the same gender or sex, these same people are quick to cry that homosexuality is being shoved down peoples' throats.

"Religion is like a penis. It's ok to have one, and it's perfectly fine to be proud of it. But don't go waving it in public, and don't go shoving it down other people's throats"
Not sure who said it first, but it always seemed so perfectly apt to me.

Exactly. Ome of my closest freinds is a wiccan. We have had some really intresting conversations about philosophy but have never tried to force anything onto each other

This is what I don't get about religious people.
They think this despite ample evidence to the opposite.
And if they are against proselytization, obviously it's not an important tenet or they would *do* something about the rampant, violent proselytization over the past two millennia in the name of their Divinity.
Except they don't, they draw artificial lines that free them of these burdens.
"Well that was *before x date"*
"Well it's not my direct Christian/Muslim religion"
"I never fed anyone to lions, that's just a story in *x book*"
Just so hypocritical. Schrodinger's Word of God. Using religious absolutism to free themselves of consequence.

Spot on. I'm religious, and I know many many others who are in complete agreement that the very *very* loud minority really put a stain on religion.
Most Christians genuinely just get on with their lives. I for one rarely if ever mention my faith unless someone else brings it up. It's just all the ones that shout from the rooftops are also the ones with the most nonsense views

How often is it shoved down people’s throats?I’ve had one Jehovah’s Witness knock on my door but I told her I wasn’t interested and she just left. I don’t think I’ve had any evangelism encounters outside of that.

40 to 60 percent of Republicans would disagree with you, though. I appreciate the respectful Christians out there, but you are an increasingly rare breed.
